Last weekend I did two things that I swore I’d never do:
1. Bought a bag that cost more than $100
2. Wore shorts with heels.
I don’t fully endorse either of these actions – however, I will admit that I was happy with my decisions. I’ve been living in working in DC for just about a year now, so it was only a matter of time before I submitted on some level to the often flavorless fashion standards of the city.
To clarify, the short & heels came before the new bag – but the two were not directly related (at least consciously.) Jeff had a house warming party on Friday – and Jenna wore the Marimekko dress that I had bought that doesn’t fit me right, but that I refuse to give up hope on because I love it too much. Impressed by her colorful presentation; and after many hours of the style network, I decided that I was tired of always trying to make jeans and flip-flops appropriate for every occasion. The whole look made me feel a little like a Jessica Simpson impersonator, but all in all, it was nice to leave the house feeling put together.
Saturday was my self-declared ‘Fall Basics’ shopping day, coinciding with the start of tax free week; doubling as a perfect opportunity to drag my boyfriend around town and make him sit outside women’s dressing rooms until he’s forced to seek respite at a nearby pretzel stand. Number one on my list was to get a bag that was big enough to hold all the unnecessary things I keep with me; that I was excited to carry around, and that would look good with both a suit and jeans. I came up with this:
I’m happy with it so far – we’ll see if it holds up. One great thing about it is that it has plenty of room to carry my camera, which I’ve done every day this week. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink. The extra 19.1 oz.’s that I’ve been toting around all week have yet to inspire a single photo. I’m heading back to Long Island this weekend with Jenna and Justin to visit friends, family and pets – and spend some much needed time on the beach. My camera will accompany me as usual, and I can only hope to return with some new material.
