is he using it… egregiously?
Okay, so this might not be the strongest argument ever voiced – but I can’t help but notice the frequent and somewhat indiscriminate use of the word ‘egregious’ by Mayor Fenty in recent months.
My interest was peaked when the DC government employees/porn story aired – and Fenty deemed their behavior “not just egregious…” I was sure I had heard a similar quote – and low and behold, just 2 weeks earlier, Fenty called the responsiveness (or negligence) of DC’s social service agencies in the Banita Jacks case “egregious.” A brief session of googling this morning brought up two additional citations: once in September, while vowing to continue the fight for DC voting rights Fenty pointed out the Senate’s failure to right the “egregious wrong” that Washingtonians have been forced to deal with. Then, digging back to his days as a City Councilman in 2006, Mayor Fenty stated, “An egregious, continuous pattern of abuse and neglect is being perpetrated by MRDDA (Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Administration) and its contractors upon the District citizens it serves.”
Call me catty, but does his communications staff not have access to a thesaurus? No cause for alarm, but I’m starting to see a pattern…

i’ve got dance in my pants.
it’s thursday, congress called last votes yesterday… and i’m ready to dance. i was talking to amanda yesterday about her latest adventures in parisian nightlife and she directed me to the video above of the latest dance craze to sweep france, tecktonik. not only does this make me want wear more neon, but it got me totally psyched to find a place to cut a rug this weekend.
finding a good place to dance in dc (and convincing your friends that you’re right) has proven to require a decent amount of effort – at least if you’re looking to venture out of the 18th street meat market. as far as i can tell – downstairs at saint ex has got it going on. the bartenders and bar-goers are friendly, the drinks are reasonably priced and the lines to get them aren’t backbreaking. the DJs achieve a delicate balance of sceney music (that admittedly, i often find myself trying and remember so i can update my itunes library later that night) and all around crowd-pleasing dance hits. basically, the music is good enough to make you want to dance, even before you start swilling tequila.

where the ocean meets the sky.
I have far too many stories to tell of the summer, not nearly enough time to tell them in – but just enough good landscape photos. (more…)
